La Sierra Chapter members are residents of Riverside, California. Eight of our regular members are from neighboring areas like Long Beach, Loma Linda, Virginia, and Los Angeles. 40 regular members are registered in our roster with 30 paying members. Most of our members are retired and are on Social Security but we are a happy group of alumni.

CHAPTER PROJECT: WORTHY WORKING STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
Every year we send to Mr. Olarte, Student Finance of AUP $2,000 – 3,000 for worthy junior/senior working students who have been in AUP for years (9-10 years) and need to graduate. These cover their tuition fees only. Mr . Olarte gives me a report of the progress of the students and a list of those who have graduated. In the past, the chapter helped the Theology Building Project.
We are currently continuing with the Project: WORTHY WORKING STUDENT SCHOARSHIP PROJECT (WWSSP).
Our chapter has set up guidelines, designed mainly to render financial (tuition) assistance to “promising” worthy student(s) in Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP) who has (have) taken much longer than the stand-ard years to complete the requirements towards obtaining a college because the student has been unable to take a full academic load each and every semester due to poverty and other limiting factors, there-by requiring the student to carry a limited (part time) academic load only while simultaneously working for her/his daily subsistence and sustenance.
In order to receive AWESNA-La Sierra chapter WWSSP tuition assistance (scholarship award) a student MUST, (a) prescreened and recommended for the award , (b) have La Sierra Chapter Report By: Lucy Fernando, Chapter Treasurer already successfully completed all of the college/university requirements towards completion of a bacca-laureate degree (4 years) (c) have consistently main-tained a minimum cumulative/ overall 2.0 grade point average (GPA) or “C” average, but preferably higher throughout her/his entire academic history, and prefer-ably at least “3.0 GPA or B” in their major field of study. We also require AUP to give us an accounting of how the money is distributed to each of the students.
We started this project for four years ago and had helped quite a number of working students. We usually remit to the Director of Finance at AUP a yearly contri-bution of $2000- 3000.
The school year 2019-2020, we have about twelve wor-thy working students.
We have not met in person for a year now due to COVID, but the members are given an update quarterly and of course to collect their
annual “membership fees.”
Quarterly Meeting
Due to the pandemic, we have not met in person, but we continue to keep in touch quarterly for updates, etc. via e-mail.
We have a E-LINKETTE, a quarterly newsletter that we send to all chapter members, so they can have the minutes of our meeting and also other important items and activities of members.
Bible Study Group
Besides socializations, the highlight of La Sierra chapter activities is a small Bible study group, which aims to help attendees in their journey to the earth made new. The group has completed the Bible review for over ten years and has restarted and currently studying the book of Proverbs – one of the wisdom books in the Bible. The group meets every Friday night from 6:30 – 8:30PM. A fellowship supper is followed
